INTERNSHIP
Interns make it possible for Brooklyn Artists Gym to operate. Most of our interns are artists or in related fields, such as art education, arts administration or curating. Other interns are interested in non-profit management, organization and fundraising. Generally, interns work a certain number of hours each week in exchange for studio rights or college credit. The BAG Internship Program is concentrated in a number of different areas:
Gallery Internship: The Gallery Interns work closely with the Gallery Director in the operations of the Brooklyn Artists Gym Gallery. Duties include helping install and de-install shows, working with guest artists, developing new shows, and office and marketing duties.
Curatorial Internship: The Curatorial Interns are involved in two areas. The first is our Estate Art Program, that is involved with curating the work of deceased artists, getting that work sorted, catalogued, photographed, online and stored. The other is working with the Gallery Director and the Executive Director in curating shows in the gallery, some of which will be of work from the Estate Art Program.
Marketing Internship: The Marketing Intern assists the General Manager and Executive Director in all aspects of marketing. Our marketing campaigns cover memberships, residencies, gallery rentals, other space rentals, figure drawing, workshops and special events.
Artist-in-Residency Internship: The AIR Intern helps make sure that Artists-in-Residence are getting what they need from their residencies, and to monitor the space. Also, the AIR intern is instrumental in helping with critiques, studio visits and gallery shows involving AIRs.
Figure Drawing Internship: The Figure Drawing Intern helps set up and monitor the figure drawing sessions, as well as book the models.
Other kinds of internships are possible. Please inquire.
